God is speaking
to my heart and revealing new truths, even though I have studied Philippians
before.
NOTES
Paul’s total
concern is for Christ and the preaching of the gospel. There is no pride or jealousy. But he is not naïve. In verses 15-18, he recognizes that not
everyone’s motives are pure; yet, he rejoices that Jesus Christ is being
preached and the Gospel is being spread.
In verses 20b-26, he desires what is “best” (see 1:10 and yesterday’s
notes). His true heart’s desire is to be
with the Lord (v. 23b), yet he recognizes that for now it’s better for the
Philippians for him to remain in the body (v. 25). He is totally unselfish.
However,
what REALLY struck me—what the Lord wanted to impart to my heart today—was
verse 27:
“Whatever happens, conduct yourselves
in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.”
Whatever happens! Whatever happens! If a slow car gets in front of me. If a family member gets on my nerves. If someone interrupts me at an inconvenient
time. If the dog jumps on me. (It’s usually the small things that get me….) Whatever happens, I am to conduct myself in a
manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.
That’s a BIG
assignment. And I have to stop for today
to ponder that….
